  • I have a 2006 Ford Taurus experiencing some noise from the alternator, the a/c gets colder, and the vents blow more air when I accelerate from a stop. Will this fix my problems?

    Hi.  There are so many 'issues' that could cause voltage loss/ drops besides just the alternator, that I could not say if this kit will fix it.  Most lower RPM voltage issues are something other than the alternator

    voltage/ charging issue that are not from the alternator ... just recently ...
     
    1.)Multiple Models: Battery has a weak cell or bad ground causing the alternator to work over its idle amperage capacity at idle which voltage loss is the result that an alternator may better compensate for at higher RPMs . Batteries that are weak and not at 100% can still start the vehicle and appear OK, but cause more strain on the charging system and can cause voltage losses and premature failure.
    2.)Matrix: Bad Fan Relay drawing more current than the alternator can compensate for at idle, but voltage was good at higher RPM
    3.)Odyssey: Clogged fuel injectors causing low idle RPM and alternator can not 'turn on' until higher RPM reached, but voltage good at higher RPM
    4.)BMW Dealer installed a starter on 325i and did not correctly tighten the B+ cable at starter. As the nut backed off more and more, arcing voltage caused bad voltage (they demanded good alternator after good alternator without troubleshooting and discovering their previous screwup to waste everyone's time and way too much money with zero liability on them)

    If your battery is not 100% then your alternator will perform without any indication that its working at higher than normal capacity, until the weakening and failure.  Long ago a customer with his beloved garage kept Subaru SVX was upset he could not get his new alternator at the 14.6 set point.  It would not show over 13.6 Volts (below specs).  Without an actual meter there would not be any indication.  I suggested to check his battery condition.  He assured me it was good and it starts the car without failure.  He changed it anyway and the voltage went into specs.  The weak battery was causing a voltage loss because the alternator was heating and working over capacity. This would of caused the diodes to fail sooner or later depending on the use.  He was so methodical he wrote up a very detailed voltage loss reports then also changed his power and ground cables with upgrades to get even 3/10ths more voltage.  
     
    Mostly we hear that 'I have a new battery'.. so that can't be the issue.  New battery does not always equal good battery.  And if the battery is new and good then the old battery might have caused the issue that is showing up now.
